Traditional Karate Academy teaches the Shotokan style of karate and also karate taijitsu, which is the authentic, original karate from Japan. It's techniques are self-defense based, and their effectiveness comes from body control, rhythm, timing, and agility.
The word "Karate" is actually a contraction of 2 Japanese words, "kara" and "te." "Kara" means "empty" and "te" means "hands." "Do" (pronounced like "bread dough") means "way ." So, Karate-do literally means "the way of the empty hand."
Shotokan Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art. It is a system of offensive and defensive techniques utilizing the various parts of the body as weapons and shields. The arms and legs are used for this purpose. The training is broken up into 3 categories : - Kihon (training without a partner and training of basics) - Kata (it is a set of offensive and defensive movements executed as a set) - Kumite (Kumite is sparring and there are several levels of difficulty associated with it)
Taijitsu,
sometimes known as Ninjutsu, is a form of Japanese martial arts. The word Taijutsu means "body skill." Taijutsu teaches individuals to use their own natural power through grappling, throwing, strikes and defensive movements to avoid attacks. Over time, there have been developments of different variations in Taijutsu and it has grown into one of the most popular and most effective forms of martial arts
in the world.

The word Shotokan is composed of three kanji characters in Japanese. The sho means pine tree. To is the character for waves. The word kan means building. The name Shotokan comes from the world's first karate dojo, which was constructed in 1939 by Funakoshi's students.
The most important goal of karate is to strengthen people mentally and physically through strong, disciplined training, so that better harmony among people is realized Strive to perfect character • Defend the paths of truth • Guard against rash courage • Foster the spirit of effort • Honour the rules of etiquette
Women, men, and children aged 5 or older who can safely engage in moderate physical activity can learn karate. You are never too old to begin karate training.
Students not only learn self-defense, awareness, and self-control, but Shotokan Karate also is one of the most balanced and complete ways of keeping in good physical condition. Shotokan Karate incorporates the use of the entire body in which legs, hips, spine, shoulders and arms are co-ordinated to develop balance, flexibility, poise, speed, strength and stamina. No other form of training uses as many parts of the body to such an extent. Karate is not seasonal and so one's condition can be maintained throughout the year. Other forms of training, where exercise for the sake of exercise is done, become a chore after the first enthusiasm passes and are invariably dropped. However, Karate becomes more interesting and rewarding as you progress, without any limit. Even after decades of training, students will still be learning and improving their techniques.
Shotokan Karate produces lifelong committments to health and personal integrity. Traditional Karate Academy teaches respect for self and others. Observe the eagerness of your child as he or she respectfully approaches the practice floor and instructor to join their friends in disciplined and meaningful learning. You will see the improvements in your child's attitudes toward responsibilities at home and school. Shotokan Karate provides the tools for strengthening both the mind and the body. Shotokan Karate teaches children to exercise their self-control.
